Raji, a well-built fisherman, goes out to sea to catch fish daily. One day, a whale gets caught in his net, but as he tries to pull it onto his boat, he spots an oyster and is struck by the conflict of making a decision between letting go of his big fish and catching the oyster. He imagines finding a pearl he could sell for very good money but also worries that the oyster carries none. Inspired by the classical tales of Kalila Wa Dimna, A Fisherman’s Tale exemplifies life’s difficult decisions in this symbolic narrative and strengthens the idea of accepting all consequences of those decisions without sorrow or regret.
